Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly Names Jonathan W. Fitch a 2009 Lawyer of the Year
Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly has this week named Jonathan W. Fitch, the managing partner of Sally & Fitch LLP, as a "2009 Lawyer of the Year." Mr. Fitch was one of ten lawyers in the Commonwealth to receive this honor.
BOSTON, MA, January 11, 2010 /Financial PR News/ -- Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly has this week named Jonathan W. Fitch, the managing partner of Sally & Fitch LLP, as a "2009 Lawyer of the Year." Mr. Fitch was one of ten lawyers in the Commonwealth to receive this honor.
The weekly publication, the paper of record for the Bar of the Commonwealth, cited Mr. Fitch for his representation of Kington Holdings Limited, a corporation based in Hong Kong, in an international arbitration with LoJack Equipment Ireland. The article announcing the award states, "Children are told that if they dig a deep enough hole, they'll emerge on the other side of the world, in China. For grown-ups who have dug themselves into a legal hole and hope to emerge clean, the last attorney they'll want to go up against is Jonathan W. Fitch - because he'll go to China and back again."
Kington Holdings Limited was the exclusive licensee of certain technology, products and services in the People's Republic of China under an agreement with LoJack Equipment Ireland. As Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly explains, "When LoJack terminated the technology license, patent trademark and supply agreement and initiated arbitration proceedings against Kington for breach of contract, Fitch and his legal team stepped in and filed a counterclaim for wrongful termination of the agreement. At the conclusion of the liability phase, which was heard in Boston, the arbitrator dismissed the licensor's claims and found in favor of Kington on its breach-of-contract counterclaim. A settlement was reached prior to the damages hearing, in which LoJack was required to pay Kington $18.25 million."
According to Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, the settlement paid to Kington Holdings Limited was one of the largest reported in Massachusetts for 2009.
